Sunday 8 December 2007 was chosen by the Greek Academy of Taste to make a special theme event entitled «Oinopantremata» or literary translated "Wine Marriages".
Members and friends were called to lunch at the well known restaurant Enagron - located within the premised of the same named agro tourism establishment in Axos of the Milopotamos municipality. At the gathering there were plenty and interesting wine. food and social "matchings". The well known for their hospitality owners of Enagron, Yiannis and Fani Papadakis, played an integral part in these "winemarraiages" by contibuting their skills to tasty and delicious dishes of the region, while the "studious" fellow diners «paired» he delicious food with 10 wines, representing the three main indigenous varietals of Greece. The warm welcome by the chairman of the ELAG Mr. Antoni Panayotopoulos was followed by a Lucoulian lunch where Kotsifali from Crete, Xinomavro from Macedonia and the Agiorgeitiko from the Peloponnese and other international varieties dominated the palates and the discussions of the diners. Views, opinions and judgments were many and interesting The consencus was that the Beef Ladokolla (morsels of beef marinated, wrapped in wax paper and slowly cooked in the oven) fit in extremely well with Dryopi (Nemea Region) of Tselepos Winery, the oven baked Feta gave all her aromas when paired with Red on Black by Mitravella, and the Drunk Goat was wonderful with the robust Ramnista of Kyr-Yianni; the Gamopilafo deservedly matched perfectly the Kotsifali-Mandilari of the Miliarakis Winery and the Rabbit Stew married harmoniously to the Kotsifali-Syrah of Lyrarakis while the Apakia with Prassa (Smoked Pork with Leaks) proved a perfect match to Kotsifali-Syrah of the Tamiolakis Winery. Yellow cheeses were searching for a Papaioannou Nemea while the creamy Anthotyros was the perfect companion of Dafnios of Douloufakis Winery. Late in the afternoon the «Oinopantremata» were completed in an atmosphere of absolute joy and wassail, with the promise of short-repetition. Next time in Rethymnon.
